You may need to assist ākonga in choosing which discipline and item will best allow them to clearly demonstrate their skills. They may also need assistance choosing an appropriate event and location for their performance.  

The activity does not set a time limit for the performance. However, the performance should be a complete ‘piece’, for example the whole haka, to enable the ākonga to demonstrate a full narrative.  

The length of the performance should allow the student to demonstrate the best of their ability and knowledge. Part of this assessment is based on the ability of an ākonga to sustain their energy, focus, and commitment for the entire item.  

If the ākonga is performing more than one discipline, this is acceptable. However, students should be assessed on the quality of their performance of a single, pre-identified item, and not on the number of items they perform or the quality of their other disciplines.
