You may need to assist ākonga in their choice of a kaupapa on which to base their text. They might choose a local narrative, a current event, a piece of fiction, or another kaupapa that inspires them.
Depending on their level of te reo Māori, they may also need additional support to ensure they are able to demonstrate their learning. If their level of te reo Māori is quite low, you may want to consider encouraging them to compose music or to choreograph dance in order to meet this standard (Activities 2.1b and 2.1c).
The final product does not need to be a complete item and does not therefore need to convey a full narrative or feel like a complete piece. The text should, however, be long enough and sufficiently complete for the student’s understanding of the kaupapa to be communicated, and for them to be able to use three elements in their work.
