You may need to assist ākonga in their choice of an item of Te Ao Haka to create choreography for. You might provide suggestions of specific pieces, or point them towards a resource where they can explore possible items.  

Depending on their physical abilities, they may also need additional support to ensure they are able to demonstrate their learning. If they are not strong movers themselves, or do not like performing but are good with choreography, they can work with someone else in order to meet the standard. These should be decisions they are supported to make, depending on the context of your classroom.  

The final product does not need to be a standalone item and does not therefore need to convey a full narrative or feel like a complete piece. The item should, however, be long enough and sufficiently complete for the student’s understanding of the kaupapa to be communicated, and for them to be able to use at least three elements in their work.
