You will record two interactions in spoken Korean with a partner or partners. These will centre around supporting each other. Your teacher will provide you with prompts to use during your interactions. Your contribution across the two interactions will be about 2-3 minutes.

Video the two interaction opportunities below.

You will show how well you can:

  • interact in spoken Korean without rehearsing and scripting what you are going to say
  • use relevant language to communicate information, ideas, and opinions about studying Korean and supporting each other
  • refer to events or experiences in the present, as well as the past or future
  • build on information, ideas, and opinions that are exchanged
  • use interactive strategies to share and respond to information, ideas, and opinions
  • achieve communication that is not hindered by inconsistencies.

Interaction opportunity 1: Let's study Korean together

You and your partner(s) are thinking about taking Korean as a subject again next year. You will interact about how you can help each other with studying Korean.

You could cover:

  • how you feel about learning Korean
  • an experience you had when learning Korean
  • areas that both of you want to get better at
  • what you can do to help each other (for example, speaking Korean during lunch, or doing homework together).

Interaction opportunity 2: Supporting each other

You or your partner(s) have missed a few days of school. Interact with your partner(s) about how you can be supported or give support to them in this situation.

You could cover:

  • the reasons for the missing school (for example, school activities, or health issues)
  • how long you or they were away for
  • what happened in class or at school during that time
  • what we learned in class and what homework we had to do.

How to present your learning

You will need to:

  • make video recordings of both spoken interactions using the video file formats specified by your teacher
  • show evidence of 2-3 minutes of your individual contribution across the two interactions, noting that significant pauses will not count towards the overall time of your contribution
  • ensure that each interaction is recorded in a single take
  • ensure that the video recordings show you and your partners’ faces, and that your voices can be clearly heard
  • submit your video files to your teacher by the due date.

You may:

  • practise language that relates to studying Korean and supporting each other
  • use prompts provided by your teacher while recording, for example:
    • opportunity 1: photos which capture different events or experiences in relation to learning Korean in your class
    • opportunity 2: photos which show different events or experiences in relation to helping others at school.

You may not:

  • script or rehearse the interaction opportunities with your partner(s) before recording
  • use any Korean language notes, resources, or dictionaries while recording each interaction
  • record the same interaction more than once.

Rote-learned exchanges or scripted role plays will not meet the requirements of this Achievement Standard.

Getting started

Before attempting to record an interaction with others in Korean, think about the range of language and interactive strategies you will need to complete the exchange successfully.

You could:

  • revise useful vocabulary and expressions in relation to studying Korean and supporting each other that will contribute to your interactions
  • ensure you understand and can produce relevant sentence structures
  • practise forming key questions.

Reflect on the kind of language and interactive strategies you will use to support conversation such as how to:

  • clarify what others say
  • get more information where necessary
  • introduce new talking points
  • engage with or expand on what your partner(s) have just said.
