You will select and record two interactions in spoken Vagahau Niue with a partner or partners. These will centre around the idea of haaku tau fakafetuiaga (relationships). Your contribution across the two interactions will be about 2-3 minutes.

You will show how well you can:

  • interact in spoken Vagahau Niue without rehearsing and scripting what you are going to say
  • use relevant language to communicate information, ideas, and opinions about your experience of haaku tau fakafetuiaga (relationships)
  • refer to events or experiences in the present, as well as the past or future
  • build on information, ideas, and opinions that are exchanged
  • use interactive strategies to share and respond to information, ideas, and opinions
  • achieve communication that is not hindered by inconsistencies.

Interaction opportunity 1: Haaku tau fakafetuiaga — My family and friends

Interact with your partner(s) about events or experiences that you had with your families and friends.

You could cover:

  • details about your family and friends
  • what you have in common with your family or your friends
  • activities you like doing together, and why
  • a special experience you had with them
  • something you recently did together or are going to do together in the future.

Interaction opportunity 2: Foaki — Gift giving

You and your partner(s) are going to give a present to someone your own age, for example, for a birthday, leaving gift, or just showing thanks.

You could cover:

  • who is receiving the gift and why
  • the type of gift you would like to give and why
  • where, when, and how you will buy or make the gift (for example, buying ingredients for a meal or shopping for a card)
  • how much money the gift might cost
  • how and when you will give the gift to the person.

Interact with your partner(s) to learn about places that are special to each other. This may include online spaces or places.

You could cover:

  • where the place is
  • why you like being there, how often you go, and who you go with
  • what you do there, and why
  • why this place is special to you, related to a past event or experience
  • when you plan to go there in the future.

  • submit your video files to your teacher by the due date.

You may:

  • practise language that relates to haaku tau fakafetuiaga (relationships) before recording
  • use relevant prompts provided by your teacher, such as photos or objects, while recording.

You may not:

  • script or rehearse the interaction opportunities with your partner(s) before recording
  • use any Vagahau Niue language notes, resources, or dictionaries while recording each interaction
  • record the same interaction more than once.
