Definition

Rongoā is a holistic system of wellness and healing rooted in mātauranga Māori. Traditionally practised within whānau, it draws on deep connections to te taiao, ngā atua, tūrangawaewae, and te ngahere, balancing the physical and spiritual. Modern rongoā encompasses diverse approaches, including mirimiri, romiromi, plant-based remedies, kōrero, taonga puoro, karakia, and cultural reconnection. Guided by tikanga, it is often iwi-specific and honours local traditions.
