Resources to Use With Ākonga

The New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers (NZAMT), with support from the Ministry of Education, have written a bank of 35 questions in the style used in the 2022 assessment of US32406: Use mathematics and statistics to meet the numeracy demands of a range of situations.

These questions were developed by a group of volunteer teachers and belong to NZAMT. The Unpacking Numeracy document was used to ensure that the questions reflected the requirements of US32406, however, they have not been moderated by NZQA.

This bank of questions can be used:

    • to provide greater understanding of the breadth of content and the process ideas outlined in Unpacking Numeracy
    • to identify ways in which mathematical and statistical skills can be transferred within and between learning areas
    • as a source of inspiration for investigations and the development of further activities that cater to local context and the interests of ākonga
    • with ākonga as starters or threaded through a lesson (or lessons)
    • to develop practice papers that support ākonga to translate the robust teaching and learning that occurs in the classroom to appropriate responses in a standardised assessment.

Resources to support numeracy across the curriculum can provide ways in which you can further embed numeracy into teaching and learning programmes.
