You will show your understanding of how context shapes verbal language. You are going to choose a social issue or topic (the context) and one text that is used in this context, such as a blog, website, social media account, radio show, speech, podcast, or similar. You will engage with the language used in this context and text.

You will:

  • identify the context
  • select an appropriate text type, such as a podcast. For example, a podcast episode on sustainable fashion. Check with your teacher that it will provide you with sufficient verbal language at an appropriate level
  • describe the context
  • closely read the text to identify specific examples of verbal language
  • describe characteristics of the specific examples of verbal language and how they are typical of the context
  • explain how the context has influenced the specific examples of verbal language and how the examples connect
  • draw conclusions about the relationship between the context and the specific verbal language choices.

How to present your learning

You will demonstrate your understanding of how context shapes verbal language through a visual verbal presentation. This could take the form of a slideshow, digital presentation, online video clip, public-speaking presentation, vlog, or another appropriate visual text type.

It is recommended that presentations should be approximately 3-4 minutes long.

You can discuss other possible ways of presenting your evidence with your teacher. These may include written responses (750-800 words) and oral presentations (3-4 minutes).
